To Whom It May Concern
Dear Sirs,
My name is Marios Vakanas and I am the owner of Flavours Of India Restaurants.
On 15th March 2009, two police officers care of Cyprus Immigration Department visited my restaurant in Pissouri Bay. In the said restaurant I am employing four Indian citizens whom the Police arrested as to verify their personal details.
The four arrested Indians were conveyed to Pissouri Police station in an effort to continue the process due to lack of communication and effective outcome of the procedure at the scene. At the police station I was formally charged for illegally employing the chef of the restaurant, Sanje Cosain and the part-time waiter, Jaideep Singh. Contrary to the charges, the chef has been in Cyprus legally for the last two years and two months in December prior to the expiration of his visa on 2nd February 2009. I went through the procedure to renew it.
New Business Scam with Cyprus Colleges
It has recently come to my attention, colleges are being set up in Cyprus under false pretenses for overseas students, in particular Indian Nationals.
It appears they rent a building, employ a few out of work lecturers, and with the assistance of the Indian High Commission, they go to India to attract students, who in return pay thousands of Euros in tuition fees, only to find that the teaching is virtually non existent. On top of that they are trying to prove to police, immigration and locals that they are actually human.
Indian Permit Workers and Students Are Sent to Prison in Cyprus
THIS ARTICLE SHOULD BE OF SERIOUS CONCERN TO ALL PARENTS CONSIDERING SENDING THEIR CHILDREN TO STUDY AT COLLEGES IN CYPRUS.
An Indian Chef, Mr Sanje Cosain, came to Cyprus two years ago on a working visa. This year because there has been a short delay in his visa renewal by the agent, he was arrested and sent to prison for one week awaiting a court appearance (alongside hardened criminals). Along with Mr Sanje Cosain, student Jaideep Singh who had written permission from his college to work part time under European Law, whilst having his National Insurance paid, received exactly the same treatment i.e. arrested and thrown into prison. This travesty happened on the 15th March 2009, and to date they are still in prison causing them much distress.
